Terms of Use

Privacy Policy
The Dahrendorf Forum is pleased that you are visiting our website and that you are interested in our organisation. We take the protection of your personal data very seriously and adhere strictly to the provisions of current data privacy laws (e.g. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), German Data Protection Act (BDSG), Telemedia Act (TMG) and Unfair Competition Act (UWG)).

The following policy provides you with insight into how we guarantee this protection and which kind of data we collect for which purpose.

1. Anonymous data collection

In most cases you can visit the Dahrendorf Forum website without us requiring you to provide personal data.

The log files on our web server collect the following data:

  • IP address
  • date, time
  • page visited, referrer
  • browser
  • operating system

These data are analysed for statistical purposes using Webalizer. The raw data are deleted after two months.

2. Collection and processing of personal data
Personal data are only collected based on the current applicable regulations and only within the framework of a registration, a survey or for the purposes of applying at our school. Beyond this, your data are only used for the purposes of advertising and market research, also to tailor our electronic services to meet current needs, if you have provided us with your prior consent. Of course, you are entitled to revoke any consent that you provide – either wholly or partially – at any time, effective for the future.

We use the so-called double opt-in method on some pages. The way this system functions is that upon registration, you initially provide your access data and a valid email address, also a password of your choice, in the logon portal. You then receive from us an email with a confirmation link. We do not release your account until you have confirmed this link.

3. Disclosure of your personal data to third parties
As part of some services or special promotions/events, we do pass on the personal data that you have provided us with for a definite, respective purpose to a service provider we commission with the handling of services or the fulfillment of promotions.

4. Newsletter
We require from you a valid email address and information that enables us to check that you are owner of the specified email address, or that the owner of this address agrees to the receipt of our newsletter, in the event that you wish to receive the newsletter we offer on our website.

You are entitled to revoke your consent for the storage of data, the email address and the use and dissemination of the newsletter at any time.

5. Export and processing of the data in states outside of the European Economic Area (EEA)
Anonymised analysis data are transferred to Google in the USA within the framework of web tracking. (For more details please see the use of Google Analytics below).

6. Cookies and website tracking
We use web analysis systems on this website, intended to measure and analyse visits to our website. We use your IP address with purpose of collecting data, among other things on Internet traffic, your browser and your computer.

In most cases we do not use the IP address or cookies to identify you personally. We use the web analysis system with the purpose of increasing efficiency on our website.

7. Permanent cookies/third-party cookies (use of Google Analytics)
This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (‘Google’). Google Analytics uses ‘cookies’, which are text files placed on your computer to help the website analyse how visitors use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website. You may also prevent collection of the data created by the cookie and your use of the website (including IP address) by Google and the processing of these data by Google by downloading and installing the browser plug-in you will find under the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de.

Other cookies are placed, also. A cookie is a small file placed on your computer as soon as you visit a website. If you would visit the website again, the cookie indicates that this is a repeat visit. The cookie does not contain any personal data. The cookie is not able to identify you on websites owned by third parties, including the websites owned by the analysis provider.

Moreover, cookies can be used to store your preferred settings, for instance language and country settings, to ensure that they are available the next time you visit the website in question.

The Content Management System (CMS WordPress) we use places a cookie to store the session data, applicable until you restart the browser.

Most browsers automatically accept cookies. However, you can prevent this happening manually by changing the settings in your browser to ensure that cookies are no longer accepted. Please find details in this respect in the instructions provided by the manufacturer of your browser.

8. Use of social plug-ins
This Internet website uses ‘social plug-ins’ (‘plug-ins’) by a variety of social media:

  • facebook.com, by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA,
  • von Google+, Google Inc. (‘Google’), Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA, and
  • twitter, 1355 Market Street, Suite 900, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA.

These plug-ins are marked with the matching logo or the text, for instance ‘Facebook’.

For the sharing of content on social media websites we use the tool Shariff. Shariff enables visitors to see how popular your page is on Facebook and share your content with others without needless data leaks.

Shariff consists of two parts: a simple JavaScript client library and an optional server-side component. The latter fetches the number of likes, tweets and plus-ones. Share buttons and share counts work without a connection between your visitors’ browsers and social networks (unless they decide to share, of course).

Shariff enables website users to share their favorite content without compromising their privacy.

9. External links
We seek to provide you with the best possible information. This is why you will find on our website links that refer to pages owned by third parties. Unless it is perfectly obvious, we draw your attention to the fact that these are external links. The Dahrendorf Forum has no influence on the content or design of these pages owned by external providers and hence refers to their privacy policies. Please be aware that the assurances provided in this privacy policy quite naturally do not necessarily apply there.

10. Security
The Dahrendorf Forum takes technical and organisational measures to ensure security in line with the current state of technology to protect the data you provide to us against accidental or deliberate manipulation, loss, destruction or access by unauthorised persons. We continually improve our security measures as technology progresses.

11. Public record of procedures
We have summarised the data specified under Sec. 4e Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) in our public record of procedures. You may access this information here with us at any time.

12. Right of information, questions on data, privacy and revocation
We attach great importance to your trust in us. This is why we seek to be available to provide you with information and to answer your questions at any time. Please contact us if you have any questions concerning the processing of your personal data; the Dahrendorf Forum is also available if you are seeking information, wish to place applications or lodge complaints on the question of data privacy.

Moreover, you are entitled to revoke the consent you have granted respectively at any time, effective for the future.
