Research cycle 2015-2017

The Dahrendorf Forum’s most recently completed research cycle (2015 to 2017) was entitled Europe and the World: Global Insecurity and Power Shifts, looking at the key strategic challenges in European foreign policy and how these might best be addressed. The research agenda was shaped by five interdisciplinary working groups with specific focus regions: Russia/Ukraine, MENA, China, North America and Turkey. Members included academics from the Hertie School, LSE and other institutions of academic excellence across the globe, as well as leading practitioners from relevant sectors.

Over the course of the project, the Dahrendorf Forum ran over 80 events, including expert workshops, panel discussions and high profile public events. The highlight was the 2016 Symposium at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin where the project research findings were presented to an audience of over 300 participants including academics, European policy-makers, foreign policy experts, students and media representatives.

Alongside these events, over 90 Dahrendorf publications were produced, analysing pressing issues around Europe’s internal and external relationships. These included three Dahrendorf reports, a foresight report and five special issues of academic journals, alongside cutting-edge commentary on the Dahrendorf blog.
