Helmut K. Anheier and Alexandru Filip have published a paper on “The Dahrendorf Quandary, Crisis Severity, and Country Performance” in the journal Global Policy.
Their work examines the accuracy of Dahrendorf´s Quandary, which posits that, over time, maintaining global economic competitiveness requires countries either to adopt measures detrimental to the cohesion of civil society, or to restrict civil liberties and political participation. Previously, they authored a Dahrendorf Forum Working Paper on “The Rodrik Trilemma and the Dahrendorf Quandary: An Empirical Assessment,” which dealt with the same topic.
