On March 15 Dahrendorf post-doctoral researchers Monika Sus and Ben Martill presented their working paper Known Unknowns – EU foreign, security, and defence policy after Brexit at a roundtable event at the Hertie School of Governance.
As the working paper discusses the pertinent uncertainties emanating from Brexit, participants shared their views on the political and institutional challenges awaiting, as well as conceivable paths for future cooperation. Attention was brought to the most recent strategic developments within CSDP – namely the Global Strategy of 2016 – as well as the multilevel character of the European defense architecture as key factors for the future relationship. While many institutional venues for cooperation have been identified, challenges pertaining to strategic autonomy and fairness towards other third-country allies were also brought to the fore.
