Dahrendorf Forum’s 10th anniversary

The Dahrendorf Forum is celebrating its 10 year anniversary! As a joint initiative by the Hertie School and the London School of Economics and Political Science, we took our first steps in 2010 when the contract with Stiftung Mercator was signed.

10 years later we can look back on more than 100 publications, 120 events, including 3 Dahrendorf Symposia and several other high-level events in Berlin, London, Brussels, and Washington. Over 80 researchers from Europe and beyond have been involved, dedicating time and offering their expertise to answer the great questions on the future of Europe and its role in the world. The Dahrendorf Forum has also addressed a research cycle each on  Climate Change, and one on Global Insecurity and Power Shifts.

As concluding event, we hosted a panel series on “The great questions of our time and the future of the liberal order,” which also featured written contributions from top scholars (open access for a limited time) in the UC Press journal Global Perspectives. We posed and explored these questions in the spirit of sociologist Ralf Dahrendorf who wrote that intellectuals “have the duty to doubt everything that is obvious, to make relative all authority, to ask all those questions that no one else dares to ask.”

Dahrendorf Forum Academic Co-Directors Helmut Anheier  (Hertie School), founding Director, and Iain Begg (LSE) warmly thank all involved experts from academia, politics, and the media for their helpful thoughts and questions, their provocative input and fruitful ideas.

Thank you for engaging with us and helping us make the Dahrendorf Forum a network of renowned experts from a wide variety of sectors and backgrounds, and providing a platform for discussion and debates during challenging and interesting times.
