
Josefin received her PhD in German Studies from the University of Birmingham in 2017 for a thesis on media discourses of the crimes committed by the National Socialist Underground (NSU) and their implications for German national identity. As a project assistant at Birmingham’s DAAD-founded Institute for German Studies and Co-Chair of the Graduate Centre for Europe she organised and co-ordinated extensive event programmes to promote German and European Studies in the UK. She is also co-convener of the German Politics Specialist Group of the UK Political Studies Association. Her research focuses on (super)diversity, integration and social cohesion, populism and (social) media, with a particular interest in the link between violent crime and identity politics in Europe. Prior to joining the Hertie School Josefin worked as research assistant at the Birmingham Business School and as text analyst for a social media agency in London. She also holds degrees in European Studies from the Universities of Passau (BA), Hamburg (MA) and Edinburgh (MSc).
