On 14 June 2018, researchers, practitioners, social partners and representatives from EU member states came together at the Hertie School to discuss priorities and compromises for the future EU budget.
In light of the expected loss of the UK as a major net contributor and EU citizens’ growing expectations, participants identified a number of key issues. These included the need to restructure the budget to respond to pressing challenges such as migration and climate change, a limited focus on technical innovation, and a general lack of ambition.
