Perceptions of Migration in Europe: Implications for policymaking

On 15 November, the Dahrendorf Forum and the Mercator Dialogue on Asylum and Migration (MEDAM) organised a panel debate and workshop entitled “Perceptions of Migration in Europe–Implications for Policy-Making”.

The event, hosted at the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels, brought together European researchers and policymakers for an exchange on the state of, and potential avenues for future research. Dahrendorf Post-Doctoral Fellow Josefin Graef presented a paper on “Responding to Populist Narratives of Migration”, which was discussed by Monica de Coninck, former Belgian Minister of Labour. Dahrendorf Research Associates Lisa ten Brinke and Marie Wachinger also attended the event.

The research presented offered new data and interpretations of public attitudes on migration, painting a complex picture of regional differences and temporal changes. The interesting discussions inspired the Dahrendorf blog post “How Can We Close the Gap Between Researchers and Policymakers? Lessons from migration policy” [1] by Josefin Graef, Lisa ten Brinke and Marie Wachinger.
