On 2 July, Dahrendorf Forum and ZDF organized a panel discussion at the University of Leipzig entitled “Maintain Attitude, Create Trust: Journalism in times of populism” (in German). The event presented the findings and results of three workshops of the series “Standing Firm in Times of Populism: journalism between attitude and independence” held at the Hertie School of Governance between November 2018 and June 2019.
Ahead of the state elections in Saxony, thee panelists, together with the audience, discussed six main theses from the workshops, including the need for local journalism, diversity, regional differences (e.g. between East- and West-Germany) and “fake news” on social media.
