The Dahrendorf Workshop “Governing the ungovernable? Interrogating geographies of transformation and intervention” seeks to illuminate various techniques and mechanics of governing territories and people in the contemporary Middle East and North Africa. It asks how governments, non-governmental actors (both local and international), private sector actors, ‘experts’ and citizens alike participate in the governing of territories and people. The workshop calls into question contemporary practices of governing shaped by ‘transformations’ and interventions within the context of globalization, democratization, neoliberalization, etc..

The workshop takes place on invitation of the Dahrendorf Working Group Europe and the MENA region chaired by Prof. Dr. Cilja Harders (FU Berlin) and Prof. Dr. Claus Offe (Hertie School) and co-hosted by the Freie Universität Berlin. It is organzied by Dr. Fouad Gehad Marei and Dr. Mona Atia.
