The Dahrendorf Forum and the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS) cordially invite you to take part in a Dahrendorf lunchtime panel discussion on:

Asia-Pacific in the new EU Global Strategy:
From rhetoric to action
16 June 2016, 12:00 – 14:00 (12:30 – 13:30 for panel discussion)

Mercator Institute for China Studies
Klosterstraße 64 | 10179 Berlin-Mitte
Use stairs in the second courtyard of the “Gebrüder Tietz” building

The upcoming EU Global Strategy calls on EU member states to strengthen their support for economic and security cooperation in Asia, to foster a rules-based approach to conflict management in the region and to seize the opportunities that come with greater Asian connectivity. But what does that mean in practice? As the EU is occupied with its own ‘domestic’ crises, what are realistic options for reinforcing the EU’s role in Asian regional integration? What role can the Union play with regard to reducing tensions in the face of China’s growing regional and global assertiveness? How can EU member states helpvto translate growing economic connectivity into greater regional stability?

Marking the launch of the LSE IDEAS Special Report “Changing Waters: Towards a New EU Asia Strategy”, the panel discussion will be preceded by opening remarks by the editor of the report, Olivia Gippner, Postdoctoral Fellow on EU-China Relations, Dahrendorf Forum, London School of Economics and Political Science.

A light lunch will be served.
